February Staff Member of the Month - Diego Lombardo

Hard work pays off!  Congratulations to Mr. Diego Lombardo for earning Staff Member of the month.  Mr. aka Coach Lombardo has always been known to be a hard working and committed staff member whether it was in PE or out on the field.  Even more than ever he has tirelessly worked to make sure that the PARCC testing has gone off with out hitch!  Thanks Coach!
Teacher of the Year - Jang Yoon

Jang Yoon is an effective classroom teacher, who has sought to be a consistent and active advocate for high standards of academic and non- academic excellence for both himself as a teacher, and his students. He considers setting this high standard and continuously working hard to become an example of achieving his own high standard as his main contribution to the school community. Jang believes that his biggest asset as a teacher is his genuine respect for his students. He views his students as his ultimate consumers and the true authority that he must answer to. He believes that when one treats students with the same respect that he would like to be afforded, then the teacher-student relationship becomes more of comrade or accomplice rather than that of commander-subordinate.
Hence, Jang believes that this “cooperative relationship harbors the trust that is necessary to achieve what I believe to be the true goal of learning math.” After being confronted by students multiple times with the famous question: “Will I ever use this in real life?’ Jang has concluded that what he should strive to teach in math class is “how to learn,” not “what to learn.”  The skill of thinking and solving problems can be applied to not just math, but for any subject or situation.
January Staff Member of the Month - Robert Azzolino
